One of the most popular places from which to admire the view of Vienna is Kahlenberg (484m), the higher of the two hills that rise to the north of Vienna close to the Danube.
In 1683 the slopes of 'Kahlenberg' were the setting for an eminent battle. Supported by the Polish king Jan III. Sobieski the Viennese defeated the Ottomans and ended a siege lasting for over three month.
